When Gunnar and I lived several hours apart, we spent a lot of time discovering new places to camp & hike on our weekends together. We would get these 1-3 day snippets of seeing each other and have to make the best of them. We would go on long drives to new places frequently and the time would fly by as we caught up on our weeks. Reese would nap in the back of our cars or poke her head out to check out the views. We would watch sunsets from inner tubes or from the shores of lakes or from the back stoop of Gunnar's summer apartment.
We left Big Sky early on one weekend to drive to one of the most beautiful places we visited: Cliff & Wade lake, which is a popular spot between Big Sky and West Yellowstone. We passed through Hebgen and Quake Lake and drove along the Ennis side of the Madison Range until we reached our dusty turn-off. As we saw the edges of Wade lake, we were shocked at how blue it was.
We were meeting our friends Chris and Kenzi there, but knew they wouldn't show up until early in the evening. We found the last camping spot in the campground and immediately changed into swimsuits, grabbed a beer and waded into the lake to throw Reese sticks.
When Chris and Kenzi arrived, we took our dogs hiking behind the campground.
These are photos I snapped.
